13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guaranteeof our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.
15 For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your lovetoward all the saints, 16 I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, 18 having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might.
God has given us His Holy Spirit as a guarantee of salvation. How do we receive this gift? Do we see the Holy Spirit as a pledge from the Father, or is it something we “take once” and forget? Here are some steps to take to help us be more in tune with the Holy Spirit:
Meditate on God’s word. Don’t just read it, but read it again and again. Verse by verse, let the truth of God sink in. Think about the radical and life changing impact that these verses have on our eternity.
Be a doer of the word. When we read scripture, we should be applying it to our daily lives. God calls us to be doers of the word and not hearers only.
Pray. Thank God for all He has done, and ask Him to continue to lead you closer to Him.
In verses 18 & 19, Paul prayed that the believers would know the hope of God’s calling, the riches of God’s inheritance, and the great power of God displayed in Christ’s resurrection and exaltation. That is my prayer for you today, that you would realize the power of God, and that that same powerful God has chosen to love you and save you from sin.
